Karen West PhD MS BS
Joining YSC with over 15 years of leadership, coaching, and consulting experience, Karen leads the start-up of the YSC US South Office in Houston, Texas.
After completing her doctorate, a Ph.D in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Ohio University, Karen sought a deeper and richer understanding of leadership theory and application by joining the United States Navy as a Naval Officer specializing in Aerospace Psychology. Among her many roles, her last included leading over 500 scientists and engineers in the pursuit of creating and implementing simulators for an international array of customers. She then joined a US based international consulting firm where she coached and consulted at the board, CEO, and senior organizational levels in a variety of industries. Karen's work is most often in an international environment and primarily focused on the Americas, with consulting experience in North and South America as well as the Caribbean.
Her approach to coaching is based on the individual's authentic strengths and what brings the most meaning to their lives. Then, within the context of gathering a deep understanding of the organization's culture, she assists them in building excellence as a leader, paying particular attention to key transition points. She challenges leaders while being empathetic, and brings an appreciation for more subtle organizational politics, particularly at the executive level.
In addition to being an avid reader and sometimes musician, Karen's primary goal outside of work is to spend time with her husband. Together, they enjoy exploring the history and traditions of the US southern culture and Eastern Cherokee tribe, traveling, and acting as Patrons of the Arts.
